New Play Festival 2015

The table readings will occur between Feb. 1 and March 1. Each reading will include a discussion session afterwards with the cast, director and audience and, when possible, the playwright. The table reading plays are as follows:

The Cast List by Gayle Greene – Two star-crossed cast lists wreak havoc on a struggling community theatre’s production of Romeo & Juliet.

The Third Proposal by Dennis Duff – Struggling against his feelings for neighbor Anna Wagner, Helmut can only watch as his two brothers vie for her hand, then fall as victims of WWII.

American Farce by Michael Reimann – A woman from Max’s past shows up at his door and claims he is the father of her 10 year-old son. Max soon devises a plot to use his estranged son’s uncanny ability to pick race horses to pay off a loan shark.

We are also producing three staged readings, which will also be followed by a discussion session with actors, audience, director and playwrights. These staged readings will each have one performance in March:

A Cocaine Comedy by Harrison Young – Richard tries cocaine for the first time moments before two desperate policemen kick down his door. The hijinks quickly escalate as the local news, governor of Texas, and a very special couch lead Richard’s petty crime to making national headlines.

Found Objects by Marilynn Barner Anselmi – Found Objects examines four lives brought together by death, and the truth they all create – or barely tolerate – around that tragic accident.

IATW_posterThe New Play Festival rounds out with a World Premiere presentation of a new play. This year’s full production is  I Am The Way by Scott Strahan, directed by Tom Parkhill.

McRae Allen hates his job, so he finds a new one. He becomes an Internet evangelist and watches the cash, and death threats, come rolling in. I Am The Way runs March 6 – 22, Thursdays – Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 3:00 pm, at Theatre Knoxville Downtown*.
