Our New Play Festival showcases new plays that have never been produced.
Each year we choose from the best scripts submitted to us by writers from across the country. We read the selected plays at public table readings and include a discussion session with the audience, actors, director and the playwright.
The writers then have the chance to use the feedback to improve their plays. We select promising new scripts to bring back as staged readings. Staged readings then have the chance to become full productions in future festivals.
Here’s a look at our recent festivals:
*Tennessee Stage Company presents New Play Festival World Premiere full productions through special cooperation with Tiger Lily Theatre & Theatre Knoxville Downtown.
For more information, please contact the Tennessee Stage Company at 546-4280.
Our submission policy is simple: we read all scripts – full length or one act – and consider each play on its own merits. We do not accept scripts electronically.
Please mail scripts to: Tennessee Stage Company, P.O. Box 1186, Knoxville, TN 37901.
We read throughout the year, so you may submit a script at any time. We make our selections around the end of October for the following year, and the festival runs January through March. If you wish to have the script returned to you in the event it is not selected, please include a self-addressed stamped return envelope.
Our process: Annually we choose three to six plays for public table readings, including a discussion session with the audience, actors, director and – whenever possible – the playwright. From these plays we choose (generally) two plays to bring back the following year as staged readings and then one of these two plays will become the featured production in the next year’s festival. For a featured full production we pay a royalty of $500.00.
